"It's a Black President, Huey Freeman"

A German documentary follows the Freeman family during election of the country's first Black President.
Quote:

Cultural references

* Thugnificent's initial response to Obama's first name is a reference to an interview that DMX did with XXL.[1]

* Later in the episode, Granddad says "Don't tase me, bro!" to an armed security guard at Obama's inauguration before being tasered. (University of Florida Taser incident)

* The Dick Ridin' Obama song is a parody of the songs "Yes We Can" and "It's a New Day", by Will.I.Am. Gangstalicious was featured in the video.

* After Obama's electoral victory is announced on TV, Sarah says that "for the first time in my life, I'm proud to be an American," a reference to a similar quote by Michelle Obama, speaking in Milwaukee, Wisconsin during the 2008 presidential campaign.

* Thugnificent says he will replace the word "Nigga" with "Obama" and "Bitches" with "Michelle," a reference to a similar statement made by Jim Jones.[2]

* The title is a reference to the 1966 Peanuts special It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. It is the second time a Peanuts animated special was referenced in a title- the first being "A Huey Freeman Christmas" (A Charlie Brown Christmas)

* When Granddad is exchanging the picture of Huey and Riley with one of Obama, a picture of the cast of The Warriors can be seen.

* In the interviews of Huey in his room, a real picture of Malcolm X can be seen behind him.

[edit] Continuity

* Early in the episode, John McCain states that Huey is a boy that thinks "Jesus is black, Ronald Reagan is the devil, and the government is lying about 9/11." This is a reference to "The Garden Party", where Huey speaks those exact words to party guests in his dream. They were also the first words Huey spoke in the series.

* This is the second time in the series Huey has had to abort an 'operation' "because he couldn't get a ride". The first was in "The Passion of Reverend Ruckus".

* Uncle Ruckus has more precise aim with his brick throwing unlike Season 1 ("Return of the King"). Ironically, he decides not to throw a brick at Obama at the Inauguration because "his throwing arm isn't what it used to be".

* This is the second episode in the series in which Riley is shown as a graffiti artist.

Thugnificent’s new album does not sell well and in order to make money he has to do the one thing that scares him the most. He has to get a real job.

Quote:

Cultural References

* Thugnificent often uses the phrase "no homo" which is a phrase coined and popularized by rapper Cam'ron. It is used to erase possible misconception about the persons sexuality when saying something that could be misconstrued as homosexual. For example when Flonominal gets fired and walks away Thugnificent yells "I love you man..... no homo".

* Sgt. Gutter is a parody to teenage rapper Soulja Boy Tell 'Em. His song "Crank That Artichoke" and its accompanying dance is a reference to Soulja Boy's smash hit Crank That (Soulja Boy).

* Sgt. Gutter's feud with the "old" rapper Thugnificent is a reference to the real-life feud Soulja Boy had with rapper Ice-T. The two also traded internet videos to further their beef.

* "Mo Bitches Mo Problems", Thugnificent's latest album, is a play on the name of The Notorious B.I.G.'s single "Mo Money Mo Problems".

* The episode title Bitches to Rags references Thugnificent's first appearance in the series in the episode The Story of Thugnificent, where MTV aired a documentary about Thugnificent called Rags to Bitches.

* In the scene where Thugnificent is selling crack, one of the characters trying to buy from him is similar to Tyrone Biggums, a crack addict that Dave Chappelle portrays on the Chappelle's Show. Charlie Murphy, a regular on Chappelle's Show, was listed as a guest star in the episode credits. He does the voiceovers for Ed Wuncler III. [1]

* Thugnificent strays from his original style and creates an entire album using "auto-tune". This is similar to Kanye West's album 808's and Heartbreak.

* The scene where Thugnificent is trying to sell crack to the record producer is a parody of a scene in Boogie Nights where Mark Wahlberg's character attempts to sell fake cocaine to a rich cocaine addict.

[edit] Continuity

* Leonard, the Lethal Interjection reject from the Shinin' episode, is revealed to be not only living in Thugnificent's home, but also the only one in the house earning money to pay the bills.

* Also a continuity from the Shinin' episode, Leonard said if Lethal Interjection someday goes down the gutter, that the crew would be "flippin' burgers at Wendy's." In this episode, he actually gets a job at Wendy's when Thugnificent is unable to pay for his house.

[edit] Notes

* Though Flonominal appears in this episode, he is not voiced by Busta Rhymes. Macktastic does not appear in this episode.

* This is the first episode of the series where Huey has no speaking parts.

* This is the 3rd episode in the series where Riley has taken narrating duties, the first being in the Season 1 episode The Story of Gangstalicious And the second was In season 2 episode Shinin'.

"The Red Ball"

Kickball legend Huey Freeman returns after a self-imposed exile from the game.

Quote:

Cultural references

* Uncle Ruckus's line "Dock that chink a day's pay for napping on the job" is lifted from Blazing Saddles.

* This episode pays homage to Samurai Champloo episode "Baseball Blues" where a similar situation is at place, and eventually ends in both teams players taking out the other team's players, it parallels Huey with Mugen, The Boondocks opening animation itself is a homage to Champloo.

* When Ming's last kick of the ball to Huey, Huey tries to deflect it as the ball glows which is a homage to one of the episodes of Akira Toriyama's popular anime, Dragon Ball Z.

* This is the second episode Butch Magnus is in, the bully that steals Riley's chain in the episode "Shinin''" in season 2.

* Most all of the super-human feats performed by the players were associated to Shaolin Soccer, especially Huey's final pitch.

* At the end of the episode, Ed III says, "...mission accomplished", referencing the fact that he's supposed to be a parallel to George W. Bush.

* Huey's final pitch is a parody of the "Jecht Shot" move from the Final Fantasy series.

The Story of Jimmy Rebel

Uncle Ruckus's favorite music artist, Jimmy Rebel pays him a visit when he becomes highly interested in his submitted racial music recording.
Quote:

Cultural References

* The character Jimmy Rebel is a parody of real racist singer Johnny Rebel. Additional references include those to the single "Coon Town" and the album "It's the Attitude Stupid!".

* When Ruckus falsely renames himself "Toby" upon seeing Jimmy Rebel at the door is a reference to the series of Roots in which Kunta Kinte is renamed Toby by his slave master.

* As Ruckus talks to Jimmy Rebel he says "As if the internet scams and underwear bombs weren't bad enough, Goddamn Nigerians" This was a reference to Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a Nigerian Muslim who unsucessfully tried to ignite plastic explosives hidden in his underwear while on board Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on December 24, 2009.

* The Limousine Ruckus and Jimmy Escape in is painted with the orange color scheme of the General Lee car from The Dukes of Hazzard.

* During the limousine ride to "Spoke-n-Hope", there is a "Robert E. Lee Freeway" sign.

* The sign next to Ruckus's door which says "Wallace for President" is a reference to one of the many presidential runs of segregationist southern governor George Wallace.

[edit] Continuity

* When Ruckus and Jimmy Rebel are both in Ruckus's house, many racist pictures and antiques towards black people can be seen, such as Confederate Flags and a picture of a member of the Ku Klux Klan. These are seen in an earlier episodes such as "It's a Black President, Huey Freeman".

"Stinkmeaner 3: The Hateocracy"

Stinkmeaner's crew decides to avenge him by seeking revenge for his death and hunting down the Freemans
Click this bar to view the full image.

Quote:

Notes

* This is the fourth time in the series that Ed Wuncler III has mistakenly attacked a false antagonist, the first being ordinary people besides the "Xbox Killer" (A Date With The Health Inspector), the second being kidnapping Maya Angelou instead of Oprah Winfrey (Let's Nab Oprah), the third being a little child besides bully Butch Magnus (Shinin'), and this time, ordinary elders instead of the Hateocracy. All of these occurences actually happened consecutively per season.

* This is, currently, the second episode of the show to be rated TV-MA-V (the first being "Granddad's Fight, because Huey played the Blind Samurai movie clip), because of Bushido Brown's decapitation.

* In the opening scene when Sarah is taken away by the Stinkmeaner clones, her remark of "Tom, you punk-ass motherfucker!" is awkwardly uncensored it's mainly because you cannot fully hear the word "fuck" only "fu"

* Although Stinkmeaner is blind, he was actually able to see where he was walking and driving in this episode, although some of these occurences could be due to Stinkmeaner's increased sense of smell.

* This is the second episode when Riley is interested in watching the news, the first being on The Story of Gangstalicious because he got shot & was desperate for information.

[edit] Cultural References

* The opening scene is a parody of a scene from the movie "28 Weeks Later."

* Two members of Stinkmeaner's crew, Lord Rufus Crabmiser and Lady Esmeralda Gripenasty, seemed to be based on the characters Fred Sanford and Aunt Esther from Sanford & Son. Which is not only made clear by their Appearances but also the utterances of their known Catch Phrases. Esther's Being "Fish-Eyed Fool" and Ending her Invectives with "Suckah". And Fred G. Sanford's being "You Big Dummy".

* George Pissedofferson is based off of JJ Evans from "Good Times." George Pissedofferson wears a bucket hat like the one JJ wears, and when Bushido Brown gets decapitated, you can hear him say, "Dynomite!", JJ's catch phrase. He also calls Uncle Ruckus "buffalo butt" while the group interrogates him on the whereabouts of Robert Freeman. Buffalo butt is the name J.J. commonly called Nathan Bookman who was the superintendant of their apartment building.

* The weapon used by Lord Rufus Crabmiser is similar to the one used by the villain in the film "Master of the Flying Guillotine" and in "Kill Bill".

* Bushido Brown is based on the characters Williams and Lee from the film "Enter the Dragon" and Billy Lo from the film "Game of Death."

* When the Freeman family looks up Stinkmeaner on Wikipedia, the Wikipedia page that is shown is a direct reference to the real Colonel H. Stinkmeaner Wikipedia page, as it shows the same picture (though with the background removed).

* The Jeet Kune Do-style boxer's shuffle is a direct homage to Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop's first episode.

* The scene where Bushido Brown is decapitated is a reference to a similar scene in the anime "Afro Samurai," where Afro's father is decapitated in a similar manner.

* The many clones of Stinkmeaner in Granddad's dream and Huey dodging a punch by slanting his body during the fight at the school is a reference to The Matrix.

* The scene where Bushido Brown jumps up and stomps on the woman in Stinkmeaner's crew is a reference to Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon.

* In the scene where Stinkmeaner lists the requirements Granddad had to pay, for Bushido Brown's services, he states that their garage was converted into a personal workout gym that only Bushido Brown could use. When the garage is shown Bushido Brown is meditating, wearing a outfit simillar to the one worn by Billy Lo from Game of Death, and Beatrix Kiddo of the Kill Bill series.

* When Grandad goes fishing and encounters Lord Rufus Crabmiser, there is an allusion to Booker T. Washington's 1895 "Atlanta Compromise" speech.

* The fighting sequence where Bushido Brown mistakenly attacks a police officer to protect Grandad is a reference to Jim Kelly in Black Belt Jones.

"Smokin With Cigarettes"

When Riley befriends juvenile felon Lamilton Taeshawn, he is having the best time of his life as they go around, causing trouble. Things take a turn for the worst when Lamilton wants to cause more than just trouble when he shows Riley a real handgun...
Quote:

* The final battle between Riley and Lamilton reveals to be the first time in the series that Riley has single-handedly won a fight.

[edit] Cultural References

* Lamilton Taeshawn is a spoof on 7-year-old Latarian Milton who went on a driving spree in his grandmother's SUV, then beat his grandmother over fried chicken---both of which are referenced in the episode.

* The episode's title "Smokin With Cigarettes" comes from a quote from Latarian Milton in an interview, in which he said "...and he smokes with cigarettes". This is also referenced frequently throughout the episode.

* The promo for this episode says "it's fun to do bad things", a quote from the same interview.

* the interveiw at the beginning is a parody of the ring

* The interview can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcqOgnQyXp4

* The interview involving the "chicken wing" scene can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-Mr3irlWIk&NR=1

* Dr. Doomis is a reference to Dr. Sam Loomis from the Halloween franchise

* The conversation between Dr. Loomis, Huey, and Granddad is almost identical to the one that Dr. Loomis had with Sheriff Leigh Brackett in the original Halloween franchise movie.

* The movie that Lamilton and Riley are watching appears to be the horror-miniseries "It"

* The final battle scene is a reference to the movie "Juice". The part when Riley throws Lamilton's gun off the edge of the school is similar to when Q throws the gun into the lake; the fight between the two is also referenced, and the part where Riley tries to hold Lamilton, but he loses his grip is also a reference to when Q tried to hold on to Bishop, but he couldn't hold his grip, although Lamilton lived but Bishop did not. Earlier in the episode and in the promo, the statement of "who's got the juice" pays homage to the title of the movie.

* Part of the episode deals with similar elements from the movie The Good Son staring Macaulay Culkin as a mentally disturbed kid Henry who engages in several similar activities that Lamilton does like smoking, stealing things, pulling pranks, causing a massive car pile up, and killing a chained up guard dog, and like Riley he tries to get his cousin Mark played by Elijah Wood to be like him.

* The ending seems to mirror the ending of the film Misery (film) with the main character meeting a new person saying the same words when he first met the obsessive fan.

"The Fun-Raiser"

Riley organizes a fundraiser with Cindy McPhearson, Jazmine Dubois and other kids from Woodcrest, but the money is not going to anyone in need. In the end, a real gang comes after Riley.

Quote:

Cultural References

* The premise of the episode is similar to that of Scarface.

* The speech that Granddad gives Riley about allowance is a reference to the speech that Julius from the sitcom Everybody Hates Chris gives Chris when he asks for an allowance, like when he says "I allow you to live in this house!"

* Although already mentioned by Granddad after Riley gives him his car-boat, he sports a suit similar to James Bond.

* The student being dunked and frozen in chocolate is a reference to the scene in The Empire Strikes Back in which Han Solo is frozen in carbonite.

* The Scene in which Cindy and her friends bully a girl for selling on her territory is taken from a skit, Can It Be All So Simple Remix on Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... album.

"Pause" is a phrase used in the urban community to express an air of awkwardness after a pseudo-homosexual statement is uttered. This is commonly followed by the phrase "No homo".

Quote:

Cultural References

* The character Winston Jerome is a parody of film-maker Tyler Perry.

* Jerome's character Ma Duke (who he crossedresses to portray) and the play at the beginning are parodies of Tyler Perry's character Madea and his plays/movies.

* The "wah wah wah" sound that Granddad hears when Winston is praying is a reference to when adults talk in the "Peanuts" cartoons.

* The scene where Winston drops down while singing in drag is a parody of The Rocky Horror Picture Show

* The title is a reference to the Season 1 Episode, A Date With The Health Inspector.

* This episode will be Butch Magnus' third appearance.
